Term 2
This term, the children will continue to explore lots of new and exciting learning opportunities, as well as preparing for our Christmas Nativity. We are looking forward to another fantastic term together!
Phonics will continue to be an important part of our daily routine. The children will develop their knowledge of sounds, practise blending sounds to read words and build their reading fluency and comprehension through daily Read Write Inc. sessions.
We want to encourage all children to develop a love of reading and enjoy a wide range of stories. Children will bring home a new reading book every three days to practise the sounds and words they have been learning in phonics.
We encourage you to read with and to your child regularly. Sharing stories, talking about the pictures, discussing the characters and predicting what might happen next are all wonderful ways to support your child's reading development.
In maths, we will continue to develop our understanding of numbers to 10. The children will practise counting, recognising and representing numbers, finding one more and one less, and using number lines and practical resources to support their learning.
We will also explore addition and subtraction and develop our understanding of number bonds. Whenever possible, practising counting and number recognition at home will help reinforce the skills we learn in school.
Alongside phonics, reading and maths, the children will enjoy a range of exciting lessons across the curriculum, including English, science, art, design and technology, computing, PE, RE, history and our other foundation subjects.
We will also be busy practising for our Christmas Nativity, giving the children an opportunity to develop their confidence and enjoy performing together.
PE Days
Our PE days this term are Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their PE kit on these days.
Homework
We cannot stress enough the importance of reading both with your child and to your child. Please aim to share a book every day, even if it is just for a few minutes.
Children will bring home a new reading book every three days. You can support them by looking at the pictures, talking about the story, listening to them read and reading the book aloud to them.
Please record all shared reading in your child's yellow reading record.
Children will also receive a Phonics Challenge Card each half term, with QR codes linking to short videos to help them practise their phonics sounds at home. These are a great way to keep sounds fresh in their minds and support their progress in reading.
Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to another wonderful term of learning, exploring and making special memories with Conway and Ash Classes!
